Creative Director @ Controvento - NL

Gabriele Chiave

Gabriele Chiave knows no boundaries. A lifelong observer of the world around him, Gabriele is driven by the comprehensive nature of design and a desire to ignite meaningful interaction between product and people. Born in Metz, to diplomat parents, Gabriele has lived across the globe-in Metz, Dakar, Caracas, Buenos Aires, Rome, Amsterdam, and New York-before returning to Milan and Paris, the cities he now calls home.

Gabriele’s rich history of education and early ‘design upbringing’ in Milan was inspired by the Italian design masters who positioned Italy as a global leader in industrial design. In 2007, he aligned his knowledge of production and functionalism to the emotion and artistry of Marcel Wanders studio in Amsterdam, where he served as Creative Director.

Together with Marcel Wanders Gabriele was as well co-creative director for 10 years for Decorte, a renown Japanese luxury beauty brand.

Throughout his career, Gabriele has overseen projects in product design, interior design, art direction and branding for some of the most renowned international design brands including Poliform, Flos, Cappellini, Baccarat, KLM, Magis, Louis Vuitton, Fendi Casa, AUDI, Alessi, Christofle, MOOOI, Diesel, Bentley, Mondrian, Raffles, and other international companies and hospitality groups.

Gabriele also served as Global VP Creative Direction – for the Estée Lauder Companies in New York, overseeing design & innovation for prestigious brands such as MAC, La Mer, Tom Ford Beauty, Balmain Beauty, Clinique, Jo Malone, Le Labo, Estée Lauder and more.

Today, Gabriele is Creative Director of Controvento, a multidisciplinary design collective, bringing together creators from all around the world, united by a shared drive for design excellence and a passion for crafting meaningful projects.
