Ursula Tischner is a German designer, design researcher, consultant and lecturer specializing in design for sustainability, circular design, social design and Eco-design. She studied architecture, art and product design/industrial design. Already during her studies she focused on ecologically and socially meaningful design of products, services and systems. After completing her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, she worked as a researcher at the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy, where she conducted research projects and published her first publications. In 1996, she founded econcept, an agency for sustainable design in Cologne, pioneering the field of eco and sustainable design. Since then, she has been working with econcept to advise companies in the field of sustainable design, conducting research projects, developing and designing solutions, publishing and working in education and training in Germany and abroad. Important stages in her academic career since 1995 have included a professorship in Eco-design at the Design Academy Eindhoven in The Netherlands, teaching Eco-design at the Zurich University of the Arts, Switzerland, establishing a master’s program in Sustainability Design at the Savannah College of Art and Design, USA and heading the master’s program in Eco-innovative Design at the Joanneum University of Applied Sciences in Graz, Austria. Since October 2022 she is Professor for Sustainable Design and responsible for the Bachelor’s Program Sustainable Design at Wilhelm Büchner Hochschule, mobile University, in Darmstadt, Germany.
