The Archiproducts Design Awards 2026 reveal three new jurors for the Sustainability Award, bringing together research, architecture and design culture
Professor Martin Charter, Giulia Foscari and Ilkka Suppanen join the jury of the Archiproducts Design Awards 2026 Sustainability Award, the special recognition dedicated to products that interpret environmental responsibility as an integral part of contemporary design.
For the edition of the Awards, the Sustainability jury brings together international figures whose work explores the relationship between design, circularity, cultural preservation and long-term impact. From academic research to architectural practice, from activism to product design, their perspectives will contribute to identifying projects that offer meaningful responses to the environmental challenges shaping the future of the industry.
The ADA 2026 Sustainability Award recognizes products that integrate ecological strategies, sustainable materials, recycling processes and a conscious approach to the entire life cycle.
Martin Charter, Director of The Centre for Sustainable Design®, on the ADA 2026 Sustainability Jury
Professor Martin Charter is Director of The Centre for Sustainable Design® at the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) in the United Kingdom, where he has led international, national and regional research, consultancy and training programmes focused on product sustainability and sustainable innovation since 1996.
With over 30 years of experience in business sustainability, Charter has worked across consultancy, publishing, training, events and research. His career has also included senior roles in strategy, research and marketing, as well as the launch directorship of Greenleaf Publishing and leadership roles in networks dedicated to sustainable business, green electronics and eco-innovation.
A key voice in circular economy and eco-design, Charter chairs BSI’s Circular Economy committee, which produced BS8001:2017, and contributes as a UK expert to ISO and CEN standardisation related to circular economy. He has also been involved in international standards on environmentally conscious design and eco-design management systems.
Alongside his institutional and research work, he has edited and written books on sustainability in business and design, including Designing for the Circular Economyand Accelerating Sustainability in Fashion, Clothing and Textiles. He is also Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Farnham Repair Café, a project that reflects his long-standing commitment to repair, reuse and responsible consumption.
Giulia Foscari, Founder of UNA / UNLESS, on the ADA 2026 Sustainability Jury
Architect, curator and activist Giulia Foscari brings to the ADA 2026 Sustainability Jury a practice that moves across architecture, culture, environmental action and research. Active in Europe, Asia and the Americas, she is the founder of UNA and its alter ego UNLESS.
UNA is an architecture studio focused on cultural projects, with a strong emphasis on preservation. Its recent and ongoing works include an exhibition venue for Dries van Noten, the Anish Kapoor Art Foundation, and a pavilion for LAS Art Foundation, awarded Installation of the Year by Dezeen. The studio has also developed product designs for Artemide, Cassina and Technogym.
With UNLESS, Foscari has created an interdisciplinary non-profit foundation operating at the intersection of environment, politics, technology and the arts. Its mission is to draw global attention to the role of the Global Commons in securing a just and safe operating space for humanity, calling for action in defence of intergenerational justice.
Alongside directing UNA / UNLESS, Foscari is a member of the International Council of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), and serves on the boards of Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia (MuVE) and the Antarctic Southern Ocean Coalition (ASOC). She has worked extensively with Rem Koolhaas at OMA/AMO, collaborated with Zaha Hadid, and taught at Hong Kong University and the Architectural Association in London.
Ilkka Suppanen, Finnish Designer, on the ADA 2026 Sustainability Jury
Finnish designer Ilkka Suppanen, based between Milan and Helsinki, joins the ADA 2026 Sustainability Jury with a multidisciplinary practice spanning furniture, lighting, glass, interiors and exhibition design.
His work combines Nordic clarity with an experimental approach to materials and form, developing objects and spaces that explore balance, reduction and expressive lightness. Over the years, Suppanen has collaborated with leading international manufacturers and galleries, while his projects have entered major museum collections worldwide.
Alongside his design practice, he teaches at international universities and regularly contributes as a lecturer, curator and jury member. His recent work investigates lightness as a design principle, a theme explored in his book Lightness.
Through this research, Suppanen brings to the jury a perspective rooted in material sensitivity, formal precision and the ability to read sustainability not only as a technical requirement, but as a cultural and spatial quality.
Archiproducts Design Awards 2026: Call for Entries Now Open!
Submissions for the 2026 Archiproducts Design Awards are officially open. Brands may submit 1 to 5 products, ranging from Furniture to Lighting, Contract to Building.
To compete for the ADA 2026 Sustainability Winner title, entrants must indicate that they are competing for this category during the application process and provide the required documentation.
