Lora Appleton, Matteo Milani and Salotto among the new members of the ADA 2024 jury

Three new New York-based figures have joined the jury for the ninth edition of the Archiproducts Design Awards

 

Lora Appleton, Executive Director and Founder of the Female Design Council (FDC), Matteo Milani, associate partner at Pei Cobb Freed & Partners, and Salotto coalition are among the new jury members for the Archiproducts Design Awards 2024.

The ninth edition of the awards, promoted by Archiproducts to honour outstanding global design, is now accepting submissions.

A distinguished and international jury of influential creatives will assess the submissions.

Appleton, Milani and Salotto will be part of this jury, interpreting contemporary trends, aesthetics and functionality. They will reward those who best integrate research and the creative process and define or forecast future uses.

Lora Appleton is a recognised curator, designer, and leading voice in design.
She is the Executive Director and Founder of the Female Design Council (FDC), the premiere professional network and advocacy organization providing community, professional opportunities, grant programs and mentorship for all womxn in design, architecture and the applied arts. As a dedicated champion for inclusion, equity, and tangible gender parity in design, Lora connects, empowers and spotlights exceptional talent via her curated exhibitions, potent conversations and continues to bridge the gap in the design industry to include and show exceptional work by female-identified designers and artists.
 
Appleton’s curatorial and design work has been exhibited at several fairs including Pulse Miami, Pulse New York, Collective Design Fair, Intercept (SOFA) Chicago, NYCxDESIGN, Dutch Design Week and Upstate Art Weekend.
She has collaborated with numerous brands and design institutions including 1stDibs, Lexus, TEFAF, Design Miami, Design Within Reach, The Danish Agency for Culture, USM Modular, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and Carl Hansen & Søn. Her award-winning collections have been acquired by and shown at the Brooklyn Museum, the Milwaukee Art Museum and the HBC Global art Collection among others.
 
Appleton serves on the NYCxDESIGN Steering Committee and has been the recipient of numerous industry prizes, including the American Society of Interior Designers’ ICFF Award, Interior Design’s Best of the Year Honoree, Architectural Digest’s Clever Award, and the Apartment Therapy Changemaker Award. Appleton continues to speak at numerous museums, universities and public events, and her work has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, New York Magazine, Cultured, Whitewall, Surface, Dezeen, Vogue, Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, Sight Unseen, Wallpaper*, Domus, Design Milk, Interior Design and many more.

Matteo Milani

 

Matteo Milani, associate partner at Pei Cobb Freed & Partners, has been practising, teaching, and writing about architecture for more than two decades, first in Milan and then in New York, where he has lived since joining PCF&P in 2006.

As one of the firm’s leading designers, he has contributed to many of its most important recent projects. He worked closely with Henry Cobb on the design of the International African American Museum from its earliest stages and has remained deeply involved with the project to its completion. Other projects he collaborated on with Cobb include Palazzo Lombardia in Milan and Soyak Kristalkule | Finansbank Headquarters in Istanbul.

Matteo holds a PhD in urban and architectural design from the Polytechnic University of Milan, where he also received an MS in architecture. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects and a frequent contributor to Domus and other architectural publications.

Salotto is a Brooklyn-based coalition of distinguished Italian artists, designers, and independent studios. It serves as a meeting place, a gallery, a laboratory, an event venue, a workspace, a cultural hub and more. It is a new model for a cultural embassy: a space for connecting ideas and building relationships.

In just over a year, Salotto became a landmark in the creative scene: an intimate and inspirational stage where a diverse and passionate audience meets the excellence in the arts and design, and a meeting point to create new synergies and ideas. Recent guests include Poster House, the art department at The New Yorker, and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jhumpa Lahiri, while ongoing collaborations with distinguished partners include Rizzoli Bookstore, Interni Magazine, and Flou.

Who are the ‘Salottieri’?
 
Gabriele Rossi
Gabriele Rossi is a designer and digital entrepreneur.
In 2011, he co-founded Accurat in Milan and now leads its US operations. Over 13 years, Gabriele has managed information design and data-driven innovation projects for prestigious clients like IBM, Google, Gates Foundation, Starbucks, United Nations, and MoMA.
 
Emiliano Ponzi
Emiliano Ponzi is an Italian visual artist living in Ny.
His clients include The New York Times, Le Monde, The New Yorker, Apple, Louis Vuitton, Moma NY, Montblanc, Penguin Books, Bulgari, Airbnb, Lavazza, Tiffany, Pirelli.
Honors include: Young Guns Award,Gold Cube at The ADC of New York, medals of honor at the SOI New York.
He wrote and illustrated several books, among others: “The Great New York Subway Map” (2017) for the MoMa NY. Last art installations include: “Under the Surface”, “Flower Up” at Milano Design week 2024.
 
Giulia Zoavo
Giulia Zoavo is an Italian-born, NYC-based multidisciplinary Designer and Visual Artist who tells complex stories with simple shapes — and sometimes words. She has collaborated with a wide range of clients and agencies such as Sagmeister & Walsh, BBDO, AHOY Studios, The New York Times, and Rizzoli. Her work has been recognized by American Illustration, 3×3 Magazine, The One Club for Creativity, Illustri Festival, and PRINT Magazine.
She recently joined Adobe as a Senior Content Visual Designer for Adobe Illustrator.
 
Vittorio Perotti
Vittorio is a designer and art director based in New York City. He has collaborated with many international agencies, including Sagmeister & Walsh, BBDO, and Johannes Leonardo. His work has been featured in multiple magazines and has received awards at Clio, D&AD, and Cannes Lions. In 2017, he co-founded YOHOHO Studio, a boutique agency focused on brave projects that aim to blend communication with art and literature. He has curated the art direction and design for many brands, including Nike, Adidas, Lamborghini, Luxottica, Freddy, Pomellato, and The New York Times Magazine.
Since 2020, he has collaborated with Apple to create some of the company’s largest global product launches.
In 2023, he co-founded Salotto, at the same time creating its brand identity.
 
Gabriel Zangari
Gabriel Zangari is the Design and Managing Director of Design Group Italia in New York. Industrial designer by training, his wanderlust passion brought him to Italy where he studied and worked for 14 years in the areas of strategic industrial, branding, packaging and space design.
He is also VP and board member of Moleskine Foundation USA, a non-profit organization that aims to inspire a new generation of creative thinkers and doers to change themselves and their communities.
 
Lorenzo Fanton
Lorenzo Fanton is an Italian graphic designer and design director based in New York City with experience in the fields of brand identity, editorial design, type design, and digital design.
 
Through his international experience gained at agencies across multiple countries such as Pentagram, Collins, Ogilvy & Mather, The Partners, Siegel and Gale, The Glue Society, and Fabrica, Lorenzo has gained a formidable repertoire of knowledge and qualities.
Lorenzo’s work has been awarded by prestigious organizations including the Type Directors Club of NY, the Society of Publication Design and the Art Directors Club of NY.
 
Marco Rosella
Marco Rosella is an Italian film director and motion designer based in New York.
Throughout his career he has had the opportunity to work with companies such as NBC, Netflix, Spotify, United Nations, Google, TikTok, Away, Meta, Smirnoff, MLS and agencies such as 72andSunny, Stink, Johannes Leonardo and B-Reel.
His experimental approach has earned him two SXSW Awards and other recognitions such as Cannes Lions, Clio, Webby, Communication Arts and FWA for both team and personal projects.
 
The call for entries for the 2024 edition of the Archiproducts Design Awards is officially open!
 
Brands can submit between 1 and 5 products, ranging from furniture and lighting to contract and building sectors. Those wishing to compete for the “Winner Sustainability ADA 2024” title must explicitly state their nomination and provide the necessary documentation demonstrating the use of sustainable materials and technologies.
 
The deadline for submissions is September 9, 2024.
 
The long list of proposals advancing to the final stage of the Awards will be announced in October.
 
The winners will be made public in November.
