Formafantasma on the ADA 2023 Sustainability Jury

Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin, Founder @Formafantasma. Ph. Renee de Groot
Designers Andrea Trimarchi (born 1980) and Simone Farresin (born 1983) are the founders of Formafantasma, with offices in Milan and Rotterdam. The practice was established in 2009, but the duo first met in 2003 at the Isia Institute of Design in Florence; they later solidified their relationship at the Design Academy in Eindhoven.
Formafantasma: “Contemporary design should not only consider the needs of people but also those of our planet”.
The name Formafantasma epitomises the studio’s magic formula and personal concept of ‘making design’ consisting of tireless research and blending worlds and influences, from art to self-production, from biology to botany, making the pair the designer/alchemists of the third millennium.
Trimarchi and Farresin have an extensive portfolio, including participation in Dutch Design Week, Salone del Mobile in Milan, Abu Dhabi Art, Icff in New York and Design Miami/Basel. Their works are exhibited in prestigious museums such as MoMA and the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Victoria and Albert in London, the Chicago Art Institute, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. In March 2020, the Serpentine Galleries dedicated a solo show to Formafantasma’s investigation into the governance of the timber industry, subsequently exhibited at the Centro Pecci in Prato in 2021.
