ADA Trophy 2024. De Castelli Celebrates the Depths of the Ocean

The new Rame DeNuance Oceano finish captures the fluidity of water, infusing each trophy with blue-green shades and ripples that mimic the movement of waves

Water shapes. Metal transforms. For the 2024 edition of the Archiproducts Design Awards, De Castelli draws inspiration from the ocean’s depths to create a new interpretation of the iconic trophy.

The unprecedented DeNuance Oceano Copper finish captures the nuances and dynamic beauty of water, transforming the 2024 ADA trophy for winning brands from the warm bronze tones of the previous edition into a ‘liquid’ object.

For the sixth year in a row, De Castelli has reimagined the iconic Archiproducts Design Awards prize, designed by MUT Design. Inspired by the Möbius strip, the sculptural object takes on new life for the 2024 edition now in the new DeNuance Oceano Copper finish, which features an interplay of blues, greens and surface ripples that recall the movement of ocean waves.

The tactile experience of the new ADA award is akin to touching a sheet of water with a glossy, smooth surface, combined with its fluid and ever-shifting aesthetics, that  evokes the softness of silk. This ethereal, iridescent effect is achieved through a meticulous crafting process that combines fire, oxidation and pigments.

DeNuance reinterprets the ancient art of enamelling on copper, highlighting De Castelli’s masterful craftsmanship. The fiammatura (flame treatment) oxidizes the surface, creating a play of unrepeatable nuances. Manual hammering, an ancestral ritual that awakens the memory of metal, gives copper an organic and primordial soul, making it irregular like a rock sculpted over time. To this layering of techniques, which already evokes the movement of the sea and waves, is added the application of high-thickness pigments, subsequently polished, that transform the copper into an intense blue, as deep as the ocean.

Each trophy is a one-of-a-kind piece, featuring tonal variations and surface irregularities on the thin, seamlessly folded sheet, highlighting the artistry behind its creation and transforming it into a singular, unrepeatable object.

Founded in 2003 by Albino Celato, heir to four generations of blacksmithing tradition, De Castelli forged its identity through continuous design innovation. The company has consistently and determinedly pursued two key goals: infusing the artisanal spirit into industrial processes and building a solid connection with the architecture world.
