The Sustainability Award recognises brands that stand out in the world of sustainable design and the circular economy, focusing on recyclable and biodegradable materials, low-impact production cycles and product life cycle optimisation.

Inspired by the hexagonal geometry of the ADA logo, Michele De Lucchi‘s team created this authentic design object. A hybrid volume rises from a circular base, tapers in the middle for easy handling and ends in a slanted hexagon.

Why wood?

Wood, a timeless, natural and sustainable material, is ideal for a trophy honouring virtuous design.

Aromatic cedar was chosen for its recyclability and, above all, for its balsamic scent derived from its resin.

With over 100 years of experience in working with natural wood, Riva 1920, the Made-in-Italy brand that celebrates craftsmanship in the age of technology, is the perfect partner to create this new ADA icon. In Riva 1920’s selection of reclaimed materials, cedar joins thousand-year-old kauri from New Zealand and Venetian lagoon briccole wood.

An evergreen conifer in the Pinaceae family, native to Lebanon and Syria but grown widely in northern Italy, cedar is known for its natural moth-repellent properties and can grow to 40 metres in height with a trunk of over 2.5 metres.

With a commitment to social improvement and environmental preservation, Riva reuses cedar by salvaging wood from trees felled by natural events or planned safety logging.

The majestic trunks are stored in the vast space near the factory in the heart of Brianza, awaiting their transformation into design objects.
